EMDR therapy in Nice and Online

Some experiences stay with us in ways that are hard to explain. Certain stressful or overwhelming experiences may continue to be felt in the body and nervous system long after the event itself has ended, shaping how we feel, relate, and move through life.

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that supports the brain and nervous system's natural capacity to process and integrate these experiences at a pace that respects your individual needs.

Sessions are available in English, French, Spanish, and Italian, both in person in Nice and online.

When EMDR can help

Sometimes what brings us to therapy is clear. Sometimes it is harder to name.

Sometimes, a distressing experience continues to make itself felt long after it has ended, influencing how we feel, relate to others, and respond to everyday situations, even when we understand that it belongs to the past.

You may recognise some of these experiences:

PTSD and C-PTSD

Distressing memories, nightmares, or feeling as though the past is still present.

Relationship and attachment difficulties

Emotional dependency, fear of abandonment, or recurring relationship difficulties.

Distressing life events

Accidents, illness, medical procedures, violence, sudden loss, or major life changes.

Adverse childhood experiences

Abuse, neglect, emotional deprivation, or difficult early relationships.

Grief and loss

Losses that continue to feel overwhelming or unresolved.

Depression and emotional numbness

Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or a loss of interest in life.

Anxiety and panic

Persistent anxiety, panic attacks, or feeling constantly on alert.

Low self-esteem

Persistent self-doubt, feelings of inadequacy, or difficulty recognising your own worth.

Dissociation and disconnection

Feeling detached from yourself, your emotions, your body, or the world around you.

Whether the difficulty is linked to a specific event or to patterns that have developed over time, EMDR offers a way of working with experiences that continue to feel emotionally, physically, or relationally present.

What is EMDR therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is based on the understanding that the brain has a natural capacity to heal and integrate experience.

When a distressing event is too intense or happens too quickly, the information related to it may become “stuck” in the nervous system, stored with the same emotional charge, physical sensations, and beliefs that were present at the time.

Bilateral stimulation is used in EMDR therapy to gently activate the system’s integrative processes. By alternating attention from left to right through eye movements, tactile cues, tapping, or auditory tones, the nervous system can access and reprocess what was previously overwhelming.

This does not erase memories. Instead, it allows them to settle in a way that feels less charged and more connected to a sense of safety in the present. Over time, this can support a greater sense of presence and a capacity to respond rather than react.

EMDR is recognised as a first-line treatment for PTSD

The World Health Organization (WHO) and France's Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) recognise EMDR as a first-line, evidence-based treatment for PTSD.

What happens in an EMDR session?

EMDR follows a structured process, and each phase is part of the work. Trauma processing only begins once there has been enough preparation and the timing feels appropriate.

The work includes stabilisation, resource-building, identifying core experiences, and gradually reprocessing them at a pace that feels manageable.

01 Preparation

First, we take time to build a shared understanding of what you are working with and to develop resources that support stability, grounding, and safety.

These first sessions are not a delay before EMDR begins. They are an essential part of the EMDR process itself. We do not rush this phase. It is the foundation of the work.

02 Processing

When the time feels right, we move into trauma processing. Bilateral stimulation may involve eye movements, tactile cues, tapping, or auditory tones, while your attention moves through different aspects of a memory or experience.

The nervous system is guided, not pushed. The process is structured, but it remains attuned to your pace and responses.

03 Integration

Finally, we return to what has been processed, noticing what has shifted and whether anything still feels charged, so the work can settle and become part of daily life.

Throughout, sessions are carefully paced. You remain in control of the process, with attention to helping you feel grounded and supported at each step.
